Autism Gone Too Far

Today I listened to this video of the neurobiologist Gina Rippon talking about Autism. You can listen to the interview on Facebook  here .  My response to Rippon's claims here is that her argument is incoherent. Yes there seems to be a gender bias inbuilt here, but not in the way she is suggesting. First, it is artificial: the bias was towards boys, now the bias is towards girls and women. What previously you thought was normal in girls you now label autistic eg passionate about something eg animals, quiet and shy, perfectionist, cute. But how are you helping girls if you now consider their previously considered 'normal', neurotypical behaviours as suddenly a sign of neurological abnormality ie autistic? Has there always been a gender bias which means feminine or effeminate behaviours are seen as more abnormal? Hence, when a boy was passionate about animals he was seen as autistic. If the boy was less outgoing he was labelled autistic. Too emotional? Then the boy was seen a...

Mental Health Awareness Month 2024

It's the last day of Mental Health Awareness Month, thank goodness! The UK is mental health obsessed, especially since the pandemic. One recent example is  this LibDem poster making the rounds.  There are more important things to address, like making sure people have a decent place to live so they can lead flourishing lives and enjoy good health; nutritious food to eat for their physical well-being; and enough money to live a dignified life important for their emotional well-being.  Universal Basic Income would be better money spent than the money the government wastes on all manner of unnecessary projects. Hitting a certain industry with extra tax to raise money to compensate for their poor governing isn't a solution. That's all politicians come up with. They spend their time thinking who can we heavily tax next? πŸ€”πŸ’·πŸ’° How about sorting out antisemitism (and homophobia, transphobia, racism and poverty) in universities and wider society. Mental Health will immediately i...

Mental Health Professionals in all Schools

Image
I've been a LibDem supporter all my life but their Party's latest idea that they are championing concerns me (see their  LibDem Facebook post ). Here's my response, based on both personal experience as well as my education in psychology and philosophy research.  Psychologists have a poor record on LGBT+ rights and, as a profession, are responsible for misclassifying being gay and trans as a mental illness and performing abusive and dangerous practices on them, dressed up as therapy.  This has also caused endless discrimination and hate crime ever since, one that still continues to this day, even beyond declassification. This can be seen by the graffiti attack hate speech which said 'mental disorder detected' on a merely rainbow coloured artwork in Kingston town centre within the LibDem area of Kingston upon Thames/Surbiton. © Liba Kaucky 2023 All Rights Reserved  And although this graffiti was cleaned up it only lasted a couple of weeks before words were scrubbed ou...

World Mental Health Day 2022

Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay2022! Exercise is proven to be excellent for everyone's mental health, as well as obviously physical health too, because it naturally boosts your happy hormones πŸ™‚ and generally being sedentary can make you feel more 'down' than you actually are. Healthy mind in a healthy body!  Dance is great for this because it combines exercise with music so it's uplifting and boosts your mood,πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒπŸΏ as does creating art, which is why there is such a thing as Art Therapy. πŸŽ¨πŸ–Œ️πŸ–Ό️ Art is and always has been a strong passion of mine alongside music. They are who I am which is why I chose aesthetics (which includes Philosophy of Art, Music, Dance, Theatre/Literature, Nature, hence my love of Philosophy) as one of my 3 specializations at uni (the other 2 being Politics, and Ethics). For me, art, music, dance, theatre, philosophy and nature are the main things that keep me mentally (emotionally and physically) healthy. Life without these is, as far as I'...
